WEDDING INSURANCE RECAP
Our 2026 Update on Wedding Insurance (Including A Discount!)

Hi Bridal Diaries Gang! š
Now that we are properly into 2026 and wedding season is starting to pick up again, we wanted to revisit something that often gets pushed down the to do listā¦.wedding insurance.
We know a lot of you are feeling the stress of wedding planning, and we know it feels like wedding insurance is just an unnecessary, added extra that seems boring and easy to skipā¦but it is genuinely such an important aspect to think about for your big day!
For our couples we always recommend InsureMyDay and WedCover. They both sit under the same umbrella and cover weddings up to £80,000 including essential add ons to cover things like marquees and personal liability.
After spending time going through everything with them, we felt really confident suggesting them to our full planning couples. They have also kindly offered our couples 10% discount, every little saving counts when it comes to weddings!

Do you actually need wedding insurance?
Short answer, yes, we would strongly recommend it. Weddings are a big financial commitment and having that safety net in place gives you proper peace of mind. We insure cars and holidays without thinking twice, and both usually cost less than a wedding.
If budget is a concern, you do not have to insure the full amount. You can choose a lower level of cover or a more basic policy and still have some protection in place. Also worth noting that some venues require insurance and sometimes public liability cover as part of their contract.
What does it typically cover?
It will vary slightly depending on the provider, but generally includes things like:
Venue cancellations or closures, for example due to fire, flooding or financial issues.
Extreme weather which leads to >50% of guests being unable to attend.
Illness, accident or death affecting you, your partner or close family members (always check the details around pre existing conditions)
Lost, stolen or damaged items such as wedding bands, outfits, gifts, cake or flowers.
Supplier issues, as long as you have a written contract in place
How much does it cost?
Usually somewhere between £100 and £500 depending on your wedding size and spend. As a rough guide, it is around 0.5% of your total budget, which for most people feels very worth it for the reassurance.
What about public liability insurance?
This is often not included in a standard wedding insurance cover. This is to protect the couple and/or planner from any legal claims of injury or death. Most, if not all, suppliers will have their own public liability insurance. However, some venues require you as the couple to also take it out alongside wedding insurance for extra protection.
What about if Iām having a marquee wedding?
If you are having a marquee wedding, I would always suggest adding marquee cover. These setups naturally carry more risk due the āDIY elementā of it, and it being a semi-permanent structure which is often more exposed to the elements. Even if your venue provides the marquee, we would recommend adding on marquee cover too.
When should I get insurance?
The sooner the better! Once you have started booking key elements like your venue, it is worth getting insurance in place so you are covered from that point onwards should your venue close unexpectedly before your wedding date.
How do I reduce the risk of needing to claim?
My biggest advice would be to have trusted and reliable suppliers on board. Make sure you have met them (either virtually or in person), make sure you have a good vibe from them and have written contracts and invoices for all services they are providing you.
If you are planning to do anything like outdoor fireworks, confetti cannons, dry ice etc make sure you have venue approval for this! Any damage to the venue cause by these things can lead to a pricey pay out.
Ultimately, itās your decision whether to get insurance or not. We would always encourage it, especially as itās such a small percentage of your overall budget, but it will give you huge peace of mind! As always, look around to explore different options to what feels right for you, but be sure to look at reviews and carefully review the policies and add ons before committing. However, the clients we have been recommending WedCover and InsureMyDay to have all been impressed with the service so far!
Hope that helps as always!
Love always,
